Fulbright-Harriet Hale Woolley Award in the Arts

For recent college graduates, master's, and doctoral candidates in the visual fine arts or music

2 awards granted

9 months in France (October 1 to June 30)

Up to two awards are offered to students in the visual fine arts (painting, print-making, sculpture, photography) or music (composition, instrumental, or vocal performance). Awardees will be joint recipients of the Fulbright grant (maintenance and travel allowance) and the Harriet Hale Woolley scholarship (in the form of a free live-in artist atelier or music studio at the Fondation des Etats-Unis in Paris).

Bequeathed to the Fondation des États-Unis in the early 1930s, the Harriet Hale Woolley Scholarship is awarded annually to a select number of exceptional American artists and musicians who plan to pursue their studies in Paris. The Fondation des Etats-Unis is a private student residence and cultural center located within the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris. Opened in 1930, the Fondation des Etats-Unis offers 267 individual rooms for American and international students, including a select number of artists' ateliers and music studios. (Please note that awardees may live with a spouse/partner in these rooms.)

Grantees will be given a free live-in artist atelier or music studio at the Fondation des Etats-Unis in Paris, and access to on-site performance and exhibition facilities, including a private art gallery and a historically renowned concert hall.

Candidates should demonstrate in the application their commitment to being an active participant in the cultural program and the community of artists at the Fondation des Etats-Unis.
