Congratulations to Mr. Laurent Messonnier, French Fulbright France alumnus 2008/09, appointed senior member of the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF) 2023 for 5 years!
Attached to the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the mission of the Institut Universitaire de France is to encourage the development of high-level research in universities and to strengthen interdisciplinarity.
The research project selected by the IUF for the Innovation Chair, which will be carried out over the next few years, is entitled "Physical exercise as an innovative tool for understanding, treating and preventing complications in sickle cell disease".
For 15 years now, Laurent Messonnier, professor at the University of Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB) and researcher at the Interuniversity Laboratory of Motor Biology (LIBM), has extended his research themes to the pathology of sickle cell disease, a genetic disorder leading to the synthesis of abnormal hemoglobin, resulting in anemia and vascular obstructions that are deleterious to organs, and sometimes fatal.
Mr. Messonnier received a grant from our Fulbright France program in 2008 to carry out research at the University of California, Berkeley.
