Daniel Choquet, 2023/24 grantee, following in the footsteps of his parents who were with Albert Einstein at Princeton in the 50s, also thanks to a Fulbright France grant!
Thanks to Université de Bordeaux for this interview with Daniel Choquet (CNRS Research Director, Director of the IINS at BIC and GPR BRAIN_2023 and team leader at IINS), who will be in Denver from January 2024 thanks to a grant from our New Aquitaine - Fulbright France Researcher Program.
He explains in this article: "Searching the Fulbright alumni database, I discovered that both my parents were part of the program in the 1950s, when they were doing their post-docs at Princeton, my mother with Albert Einstein. When I was awarded this grant, I realized that when you enter a new family, the family of Fulbrighters: beyond the money, you become part of a support network, all over the U.S., that will be both very interesting and valuable. In addition to the funding that will help me go there, being a Fulbright Scholar in the U.S. is really recognized and will enable me to develop my network and meet many academics in various disciplines. Everyone in this program also has a mission to be ambassadors for their country."
We wish Daniel every success in developing his research topic in the USA: "Unraveling the interplay between synaptic receptors nanoscale dynamic organization, trafficking and signaling."!
Finally, we'd like to wish a very happy birthday in advance to Daniel's mother, Yvonne Choquet (Fulbright France alumna), who will be celebrating her 100th birthday in a few weeks' time; she's certainly the doyenne of our program! We're proud of Yvonne's career: known for having provided the first mathematical proof of the existence of solutions to Einstein's equations, her work is used for gravitational wave detectors. The recipient of numerous mathematical prizes and honorary awards was the first woman elected to the French Academy of Sciences in 1979. We're delighted that Yvonne has passed on to her son Daniel the desire to spend time in the USA with Fulbright France!
