François Pitavy

We recently learned of the passing of François Pitavy, a former grantee of the Commission.

Mr. Pitavy was a Fulbright grantee in literature at the University of Virginia in 1973.  Doctor in American civilization, he published a number of works on the author William Faulkner.  He was an emeritus professor at the Université de Bourgogue, English section.  He is well known for his collaboration with Alain Geoffroy and Jacques Pothier to publish the novels of Faulkner in French as part of the collection Bibliothèque de la Pléiade de Gallimard.

He was very involved in the activities of the Commission and served on the board of directors for many years.

His wife Danièle Souques--deceased in 2019--was also a Fulbright grantee (1993) and professor of American literature at the Université de Bourgogne.

The staff and board of the Commission extend their sympathy to his family and friends.
